New Novel: Labyrinth of Dreams by Nadee Fernando-O’Driscoll Explores Social Pressures Through a Heart-Wrenching Tale Inspired by True Events

September 15, 2024, Ottawa, Ontario (Canada)

Author Nadee Fernando-O’Driscoll is excited to announce the release of her debut novel, “Labyrinth of Dreams,” a poignant exploration of the impacts of societal conservatism and the complexities of family dynamics. Set for release on October 3, 2024 this novel invites readers into the intertwined lives of Helen, Peter, and Mala, as they navigate the heart-wrenching choices imposed by their culture.

Inspired by personal experiences and conversations, Nadee’s journey as an author began with a phone call from a dear friend that disrupted her peaceful Christmas morning. This call ignited a passion to address the social pressures women face, especially in the context of conservative societies, where cultural values often masquerade as societal judgments. Through “Labyrinth of Dreams,” Nadee sheds light on the invisible shackles that bind individuals and families, echoing the struggles of countless women around the world.

The narrative unfolds across two timelines, tracing the lives of Helen and Peter in the conservative society of Sri Lanka during the 1970s, and their daughter Mala in 2024.

At 53, Mala’s seemingly simple and content life is turned upside down by an unexpected email that challenges everything she believed to be true. As secrets unravel and truths emerge, readers will accompany Mala on a transformative journey of self-discovery, sparked by an email from Sakura, who claims to be her sister living in Canada. This revelation forces Mala to confront her identity and the societal norms that have shaped her existence.

The narrative also transports readers back to 1972, where Helen, a final-year student, dreams of a life filled with love and luxury, and Peter, a college lecturer, has his future meticulously planned. Despite their divergent dreams, fate leads them on a life-altering journey that forces them to confront the rigid expectations of their conservative society.

“Labyrinth of Dreams” is not just a story about three individuals; it is a voice for millions who have been silenced by societal expectations. Nadee’s writing resonates with those seeking acceptance and understanding amidst the rigid confines of tradition and cultural values. “I hope to spark a conversation that allows individuals to share their stories and experiences, creating a platform for dialogue and positive change,” says Nadee.

The book is available for purchase on Amazon and select bookstores.
